In oil and gas service, the dominant failure mechanisms are sour-service corrosion, sand-laden erosion in production tubulars, and corrosion under insulation on hot pipework. Belzona's polymeric repair composites and high-temperature linings address these in situ — no welding, no hot work, and no shutdown of adjacent assets.
Operators specify Belzona where in-service repair matters more than the lowest material cost: amine strippers under load, FPSO hulls without dry-dock, and refinery pipework where a hot-work permit is the bottleneck. Material is selected to match the operating chemistry, not the inventory.
Product selection follows the operating envelope. For amine columns in CO2, MEA, or MDEA service, Belzona 1593 and 1391T provide chemical and temperature resistance to roughly 320°F; areas of measurable metal loss are rebuilt with Belzona 1511 before the topcoat. For corrosion under insulation, the heat-activated 5841 and 5851 systems apply directly to hot surfaces with no shutdown, and Belzona 3211 (Lagseal) re-encapsulates the insulation to prevent recurrence.

01Amine stripper and acid gas absorber columns
Carbon steel amine strippers running MEA, MDEA, or sulfanol service lose wall thickness in the overhead section and on internal tray supports. Belzona 1593 and 1391T are the two coatings specified into this service; choice is driven by amine type and operating temperature, not by general epoxy class. Where ultrasonic thickness mapping shows measurable metal loss, the loss is rebuilt with the high-temperature metal repair material Belzona 1511 before the topcoat is applied.
02Corrosion under insulation (CUI) on hot pipework
CUI is the failure mode that destroys turnaround budgets. Belzona 5841 and Belzona 5851 (HA-Barrier) are heat-activated and surface-tolerant — both can be applied directly to hot operating surfaces with minimal preparation, so the line stays in service through the application. The insulation is then re-encapsulated with Belzona 3211 (Lagseal), a microporous membrane that prevents the cycle from restarting under the new lagging.
03Pipework — internal lining, external composite wraps, live leak sealing
For internal corrosion in long-run pipework, Belzona spray-applied epoxies in the 1300 series (1321 Ceramic S-Metal, 1331) line the bore and restore service to immersion-grade duty. For external metal loss, composite wraps deliver structural reinforcement without welding — useful where the line is in production and a hot-work permit isn't available. Live leaks are bonded with the same composite stack, including dissimilar-metal galvanic cases.
04Containment areas, bunds, and concrete under chemical attack
Concrete bunds around process areas are routinely degraded by acid washdowns, hydrocarbon spillage, and physical impact. The Belzona 4000-series chemical-resistant coatings (4311, 4341, 4351) seal and protect; 4141 and 4131 rebuild damaged concrete back to profile before the topcoat. Vertical and overhead surfaces are restored without formwork.
05Production separators, tanks, and vessels
Cold bonding restores integrity on separators and tanks where welding is either unsafe or restricted by a turnaround schedule. The 1100/1300-series metal repair materials handle the rebuild; immersion-grade coatings from the 5000 series finish the internal lining for chemical and corrosion service.
