Shafts, journals

Common industries: General Maintenance, Oil and Gas Industry, Chemical Industry

Overview

Keyway hammering and journal scoring on driven shafts strip the press-fit interface and fret the bore, leaving the keyway oversized and the journal undersized for its sleeve. Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) rebuilds the journal back to OEM diameter for re-machining to specified tolerance; Belzona 1131 (Bearing Metal) addresses the keyway and low-load bearing surfaces where a softer composite compatible with intermittent service makes sense. Both cure cold on the shaft, with no risk of the heat distortion that arc welding introduces on slender rotors.

About Mechanical Power Transmission

Fretting wear on shaft sleeves, keyway ovality, spline backlash, and bearing-housing bore wear are the recurrent maintenance findings on mechanical power transmission components. Belzona's machinable repair composites rebuild the worn surface back to fit class without scrapping a long-lead-time shaft or housing.
