Overview of Belzona 5821
Belzona 5821 is a 2-part, epoxy-based, ceramic-filled, 100% solids coating applied by brush or spray for the protection of metallic and non-metallic surfaces operating under immersion conditions in contact with aqueous solutions.
The product provides outstanding protection from the effects of salt, water, acids, alkalis, alcohols, and hydrocarbons. The ceramic filler contributes excellent erosion-corrosion resistance, especially in flow-turbulent environments.
Belzona 5821 can be applied to virtually any rigid surface including cast iron, stainless steel, brass, copper, concrete, wood, fiberglass, and aluminum. Typical applications include tanks, bunds, pumps, submersible pumps, pipes, heat exchangers, clarifiers, secondary containment areas, and pipework, plus use as a high-strength adhesive for metal bonding.
Key Benefits
Engineered, tightly packed ceramic particles bound into the epoxy resin system create a seamless coating with outstanding erosion resistance, ideal for applications such as water treatment plants.
Solvent-free formulation reduces VOC emissions and health and safety risks during application.
Spray- or brush-applied onto metallic surfaces, concrete, brick and others, with cure in low-temperature and damp conditions.
Resists various aqueous solutions, acids, alkalis, alcohols and hydrocarbons.
Provides outstanding protection for equipment operating in immersed erosive conditions exposed to salt, water, acids, alkalis, alcohols and hydrocarbons.
Can be applied to virtually any rigid surface including cast iron, stainless steel, brass, copper, concrete, wood, fiberglass and aluminum.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Belzona 5821 different from other immersion coatings?
Belzona 5821 is a 2-part epoxy-based, ceramic-filled, 100% solids coating designed to protect critical equipment operating under immersion conditions. The ceramic fillers contribute to outstanding erosion-corrosion resistance, making the product especially well suited to areas where flow turbulence accelerates surface wear.
What is the mix ratio and coverage rate of Belzona 5821?
Belzona 5821 mixes 5 parts Base to 1 part Solidifier by weight (3:1 by volume), with a working life of about 1 hour 45 minutes at 68°F (20°C). It should be applied in 2 coats to achieve a minimum total thickness of 16 mils (400 microns), with a theoretical coverage rate of 27 ft²/L (2.5 m²/L) at that thickness.
What chemicals and temperatures does Belzona 5821 resist?
Belzona 5821 is suitable for continuous immersion in aqueous solutions up to 122°F (50°C). It demonstrates excellent resistance to a broad range of chemicals including sea water, salt, alkalis, alcohols, and crude oil, with no blistering, rusting, cracking, or delamination after 6 months immersion in seawater at 104°F (40°C).
