Frequently Asked Questions
What is Belzona 5115 used for?
Belzona 5115 is a high-gloss, 100% solids, tintable epoxy-polysiloxane hybrid topcoat for the long-term protection of metallic and non-metallic surfaces against weathering, corrosion, and chemical attack. Typical applications include bridges, cooling towers, walls and floors, marine structures, offshore platform topsides, piping, structural steelwork, tanks, fan blades, and wind turbines. It is ideal for top coating other Belzona products such as Belzona 5811, Belzona 5815, and Belzona 3921 to retain exterior gloss and color.
Can Belzona 5115 be tinted to custom colors?
Yes. Belzona 5115 is available in white, gray, and a neutral version designed for tinting to custom industrial finish colors. Belzona recommends Chroma-Chem UCD® PS line of colorants for use with the neutral version. As a guide, 2-6% by volume of colorant per total volume should be sufficient for an optimum color. The colorant should be added to the base first and thoroughly mixed before transferring the contents of the solidifier into the base. When coating over a dark color with a light tint, an initial coat of Belzona 5115 (White) is recommended to lighten the underlying coating.
How long does Belzona 5115 take to cure?
Full cure time depends on temperature and relative humidity. At 68°F (20°C) and 50% RH, full cure is achieved in approximately 9 days. At 86°F (30°C) and 50% RH, full cure occurs in 7 days. At 104°F (40°C), full cure is achieved in 4 days regardless of humidity. Below 59°F (15°C), post-curing is required using forced dry air heaters or heat lamps at 104°F to 122°F (40°C to 50°C) for a minimum of 24 hours. Working life of mixed material ranges from 5 hours at 41°F (5°C) to 1 hour at 104°F (40°C).
