Overview of Belzona 1984
A two-component surface tolerant resin for use with Belzona 9381 reinforcing fabric in the SuperWrap II composite repair system. Belzona 1984 is unique within the SuperWrap II family for its ability to be applied directly to damp, wet, and underwater surfaces with minimum surface preparation — only SSPC-SP 11 (Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal) with a 25-micron (1 mil) average profile is required. Service temperatures up to 122°F (50°C). Minimum application temperature 41°F (5°C). Pre-qualified to ASME PCC-2 and ISO 24817.
Key Benefits
Bonds tenaciously even when surface preparation is minimal or substrate is contaminated
Excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals including aqueous solutions, hydrocarbons, and process chemicals
Easy to mix and apply without specialist tools
100% solids formulation reduces health and safety risks in confined spaces with no shrinkage on cure

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Belzona 1984 used for?
Belzona 1984 is a 2-part surface tolerant resin for use with Belzona 9381 reinforcing fabric in the SuperWrap II composite repair system. It is uniquely able to be applied directly to damp, wet, and underwater surfaces with minimum surface preparation, ideal for emergency and underwater pipe repairs.
What surface preparation does Belzona 1984 require?
Belzona 1984 requires only SSPC-SP 11 (Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal) with a 25-micron (1 mil) average profile — far less demanding than the abrasive blasting typically required for SuperWrap II products. This dramatically reduces equipment downtime for surface preparation.
Can Belzona 1984 be applied underwater?
Yes. Belzona 1984 can be applied directly to damp, wet, and submerged metal surfaces, making it an ideal choice for in-situ pipe repairs without dewatering. It is pre-qualified to ASME PCC-2 and ISO 24817 with service temperatures up to 122°F (50°C) and minimum application temperature of 41°F (5°C).
